“For me, blindness in the eyes is brightness in the heart,” says Ahmed Fawzy, an employee at Unilever Egypt who faces visual impairment. Ahmed joined Unilever in 2003, but by 2008, his vision had deteriorated to the point where he could hardly see a computer screen.
Ahmed was determined not to let this partial visual impairment hinder his professional life. He worked closely with Unilever’s IT team to improve software that converts text to speech, making it fully adaptable to his needs.
But Ahmed’s contributions didn’t stop there. He founded a project called “Erada,” an innovative telephone sales center. It is entirely staffed by individuals with visual impairments who inform pharmacies about Unilever’s product prices and availability. Through this project, sales increased significantly, and the small but growing team began to turn a profit in a short period.
Ahmed is an inspiring example to all. He taught himself how to use text-to-speech software and how to navigate computers. His achievements reflect Unilever’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.
